The Beer Plant

Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE my food trucks. However, I do miss sitting down at a nice restaurant with a cocktail and a great meal. Unfortunately, there aren’t that many Vegan Brick and mortar’s in Austin. I’m amazed at this fact. Since, Austin touts itself as being so green and animal friendly. Anyhoo, I digress. That’s another post, for another day.

Interestingly, one of my non-Vegan friends sent me a link to The Beer Plant and stated that I needed to try it out. He was even willing to go. Reason being, that they have over 40 craft beers! They are a gastropub. A gastropub is a bar and restaurant that serves high-end beer and food. The Beer Plant does NOT disappoint. It is a small restaurant that is nestled in Tarrytown.  It has a very cozy atmosphere. The Beer Plant has a full bar that serves AMAZING cocktails. I LOVE how they use fresh herbs w/their cocktails!!!IMG_6899

On this particular day I brought my twin with me (she was in town). Nothing could stop us! The sun was shining and we were on our way to have breathtaking Vegan food! We started out with Cauliflower Buffalo Wings! I will say they were a little heavy on the Buffalo sauce. BUT, the sour cream dip helped even out the flavor.  IMG_6896

I ordered the Banh Fire sandwich w/ Hand Cut Fries! I don’t know where to begin! The smoked Tofu w/Sriracha Mayo, pickled Carrots, Daikon, Avocado, Cucumber and Peanuts, on a  French Baguette. This sandwich excited ALL of my taste buds! I don’t know about you…but I’m ALL about texture. So, I don’t know what they did to the Tofu. But, it was just right. It wasn’t too tough or spongy as Tofu can be (if not done right). My mouth went on a journey y’all. You are doing your taste buds a disservice by not treating them to this exceptional experience. Better known as The Beer Plant! IMG_6897

TIPS: As if you hadn’t noticed. I’m totally in LOVE with this place, everyone else is too! So, it would behoove you to make a reservation if there are more than two in your party! Also, this is a Vegan/Vegetarian restaurant. I made the mistake of thinking it was a full on Vegan restaurant. I ended up ordering something that had non-vegan ingredients. Just some words of caution! Here’s the link: http://www.thebeerplant.com

HAPPY EATING!

Kerbey Lane Cafe

I’m sure y’all remember me saying that I am an Austinite. I mean native. I mean born at St. David’s Hospital on 32nd street…native. So, I remember even in as a teenager going to eat at Kerbey Lane. Kereby Lane has been around for a while.  Thirty-eight years to be exact! It reminds me of a Ma and Pa cafe with tatted waitstaff. I get all comfy and cozy when I arrive at Kerbey (yea, we’re on a first name basis). Kerbey Lane doesn’t label itself as a Vegan restaurant. However, I like that they have a Vegan menu. Also, I appreciate that I can order just about anything off the regular menu and have it made Vegan. The waitstaff is very comfortable in making the adjustments. My favorite thing to order is the “Vegan breakfast platter”.  ( In this picture I substituted the patties for Soyrizo).

This platter comes with Tofu scramble, two Vegan Sausage patties and two Pancakes. You have the option of choosing plain Pancakes or the Pancake of the week that they make a Vegan version of. This is A LOT of food. Most of the time I have leftovers. There are other things on the menu that I enjoy ordering such as : customizing a breakfast taco. Anything with avocado is magical. Their Vegan Queso is AMAZING! Also, you can order Hummus and Pita, the Red Quinoa Salad w/o the Fresco and the  Good Seed Veggie burger. Kerbey Lane is very affordable. It has 8 locations throughout the Austin area. I LOVE how Kerbey Lane gives us non-meat eaters options. And not just options but GOOD options! So, if you happen to be in the Austin area and need a great laid back place to eat or haven’t given it a try yet. Please do, you won’t regret it!

P.S.- It’s pet friendly. Your Fur baby can eat with you on the outdoor patio!
